Short answer

CalFresh benefits are issued once a month, sometime from the 1st to the 10th.

Your exact day depends on one number: the last digit of your county case number.

If that digit is 1, your benefits arrive on the 1st.

If it is 5, they arrive on the 5th.

And if it ends in 0, your day is the 10th.

Sources & last checked: California Department of Social Services (CDSS) and the USDA Food and Nutrition Service issuance schedule. Last checked October 25, 2026.

Last checked: [date] against [USDA FNS / state agency]. Payment windows are general schedules — your exact date depends on your case. Confirm in your official state portal.

Find your CalFresh payment day

Read the last digit of your case number, then find it in this table.

Last digit of case numberYour monthly payment day
11st
22nd
33rd
44th
55th
66th
77th
88th
99th
010th

That date stays the same every month, as long as your case stays open.

It is set by the calendar date, not by business days.

So if your day is the 7th, it is the 7th in every month of the year.

Where to find your county case number

Your case number is not printed on your EBT card.

It appears on the notices your county sends you about your CalFresh case.

You can also see it when you sign in to BenefitsCal, the state’s official benefits website.

Look for the number attached to your CalFresh case, then check its last digit.

If you moved counties, your case may have been transferred.

A transfer can come with a new case number, and that can change your payment day.

What time do CalFresh benefits appear?

California does not publish an official time of day for monthly CalFresh deposits.

CDSS explains which date you are paid on, but not an hour.

So be careful with websites that promise a specific time like midnight or 6 a.m.

No official California source states one.

The safe habit is to check your balance on the morning of your scheduled date.

You can check it in the ebtEDGE app, on BenefitsCal, or by calling the number on the back of your Golden State Advantage card.

For the national picture, see our guide to EBT deposit times.

Your first month may look different

The 1st-to-10th schedule describes regular monthly payments.

Your very first payment works differently, because it is issued when your case is approved.

If you qualified for expedited service, that first payment comes even faster.

From the next month onward, your benefits settle into the normal monthly cycle.

Your approval notice tells you the amount and timing of that first issuance.

If your CalFresh benefits are late

Work through these checks before assuming the worst:

  • Check the date first. Count the last digit again — 0 means the 10th, not the 1st.
  • Check your balance. A deposit may already be there even if a pending transaction confused you.
  • Check your case status on BenefitsCal. A missed report or interview can pause a case.
  • Check your mail. Counties send requests for verification with strict deadlines.
  • Call your county office. Only the county can see what is holding your specific case.

Never send your full case number, Social Security number or card PIN to any website — including ours.

We explain the general rules, but only your county can see your case.

How California fits the national picture

Every state staggers SNAP payments to spread out the load on stores and systems.

California’s ten-day window is one of the shorter ones in the country.

Some states spread payments across almost the whole month instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

What day will my CalFresh benefits be on my card?

Between the 1st and the 10th of the month. The last digit of your county case number is your day: 1 pays on the 1st, 5 on the 5th, and 0 on the 10th.

Is CalFresh the same as SNAP?

Yes. CalFresh is California’s name for the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The benefits work the same way and spend on the same Golden State Advantage EBT card.

What if my payment day falls on a weekend or holiday?

California’s schedule is set by calendar date, and the published schedule does not move dates for weekends. Check your balance on your scheduled date as usual.

Can my CalFresh payment day change?

It can if your case number changes — for example, after a county transfer or a new application after a break. Your regular date follows your current case number.

What time of day are CalFresh benefits deposited?

California does not publish an official deposit time. Check your balance on the morning of your scheduled date rather than relying on times quoted by unofficial websites.

Where can I check my CalFresh balance?

On BenefitsCal, in the ebtEDGE app, on your last store receipt, or by calling the customer service number printed on the back of your EBT card.

Benefit Calendar USA is an unofficial help site. It is not affiliated with USDA, SNAP or any state agency.
